July 18th - LEE DeWYZE!!!

Lee grew up in Mount Prospect, Illinois, and, at a very young age, would obsess over folk-
pop artists such as Simon & Garfunkel and Cat Stevens. Some of his earliest memories are

staring out the window, imagining he was inside the world of his favorite songs. Lee knew
he was destined to be a songwriter, and, by the age of 17, he was a professional musician,
touring, recording, and earning regional radio spins.
His career took a massive turn in 2010 when he won the ninth season of American
Idol. The honor offered a boost in exposure to an artist already two-albums deep in a
promising career. Post-Idol, Lee’s profile has skyrocketed as his songwriting has earned
impressive sync placements. His breakout moment was penning “Blackbird Song” for the
hit horror AMC series The Walking Dead. Since that track’s release in 2014, it has accrued
over 12 million YouTube views, over 6 million streams on Spotify, and has sold over
100,000 copies, putting it in the Top 10 of 2014’s most influential music syncs.

Aug 3- J.P. HARRIS - with the Quahogs

Aug 3- J.P. HARRIS - with the Quahogs

In short, J.P. Harris plays Country Music. Not “Americana,” not “Roots,” “Folk,” or any other number of monikers used to describe a slew of spin-off genres; he plays from the foundation of these styles, the music that has influenced four generations of songwriters. In a world where prefixes have been added to the term “Country,” JP simply sticks to the old-fashioned sounds that have called to him. Referencing influences would be like describing each stitch in a quilt; every scrap of fabric tells a story of how the weathered and comfortable blanket came to be…
THE QUAHOGS... it’s difficult to define a band like The Quahogs by a genre. Equal parts tender and heavy rock, singer/songwriter Steve DelMonico’s lyrics are witty, wise, and delivered with a mentholated authority. Steve Donovan’s lead guitar meanders from gently weeping to chainsaw shredding, oftentimes in the same song. Amato and Nick on bass and drums round out the sound by hanging in the back pocket like a full wallet.

May 30 - They Were Robots

Based out of Providence, RI, They Were Robots! is a newly formed experimental alternative rock band consisting of keyboardist Chris Mitchell, guitarist/thereminist Mike Cirino, bassist Matt Smith, trombonist Keith Harriman, drummer Tim Eskey, and French hornist/trumpeter Alex Colburn. The band rose from the ashes of several short-lived projects involving Cirino, Mitchell, and Smith as well as their active involvement in the Providence based traditional ska and reggae band The Copacetics. After meeting Harriman and Eskey in a chance series of Craigslist based auditions that took place between winter 2016 and fall 2017; the band slowly took on an entity of its own as a musical oddity within the Providence music scene. The line-up was then completed by the addition of Harriman’s good friend Alex Colburn in spring 2018; granting them a proper wind section. With unmistakable hooks, distinctive vocals and harmonies, poetic and humorous lyrics, bizarre instrumentation, and unusual song structures; They Were Robots! are on a sonic mission to intrigue the fellow musician; without detracting from the natural energy and rhythm of the dance floor.

May 19th - John Allmark Super Jazz Octet

The John Allmark Jazz Orchestra has been at the forefront of Rhode Island Jazz for almost 29 years now. During that time it has deservedly earned a reputation as one of the countries finest jazz ensembles.
The band still performs bi-monthly at the Met Cafe in Pawtucket but it's legacy continues to grow with the formation of the John Allmark Super Jazz Octet in 2017.
The Octet gives British trumpeter John Allmark a new platform to showcase his writing and arranging skills whilst featuring an all-star line-up of the very best jazz musicians that New England has to offer.
In addition to Allmark the May 19th personnel brings together Bob Bowlby, Bill Vint and Austin Yancy on saxophones, Angel Subero-trombone, Eugene Maslov-piano, Brian Rizzuto-bass and Vinny Pagano on drums.
Askew is thrilled to add this powerhouse unit to our line-up and invites you to be a part of what promises to be a very exciting and memorable evening.

May 19 - Jonathan Byrd & the Pickup Cowboys w/ Ariana Gillis

Jonathan Byrd and The Pickup Cowboys are musical gunslingers, vaudevillian hucksters, and old-fashioned tent revivalists. With their new album Pickup Cowboy (2018), they have brought a bold new set of working-class anthems to Americana fans, and a spirit-raising show to back it up. “...a folk singer with the heart of a rock 'n' roll band.” — K. Oliver, Free Times

Ariana Gillis made an immediate impact on the Niagara music scene, winning Songwriter of the Year at the 2009 Niagara Music Awards, followed by Female Vocalist and Album of the Year in 2010. She networked at music conferences, which led to a quick, two-song performance for Dave Marsh in a stairwell in Memphis, following the release of her second album, Forget Me Not. Marsh then played Gillis on his Sirius XM radio show, which caught the attention of Elton John;s songwriting partner.

May 11 - Sam Morrow with Charlie Marie - Early Show

we have a special showcase, two amazing artist, performing their hearts out! stop in for a bite, a stiff drink, and some great music!! this will be FREE but please bring some cash for the tip bucket! Sam is supporting a new record. here is a little about that!
Concrete and Mud is a confident career-defining album, rooted in Texas twang, southern stomp, and old-school funky-tonk. At 27 years old, Morrow's found his footing as an artist and appears poised to join the ranks of West Coast heavyweights like Sam Outlaw, Jade Jackson, and Morrow's friend and label mate, Jaime Wyatt, whose vocals can be heard on three songs here. The first single, "Quick Fix" is an infectious hook laden stew of syncopated beats with bubbling clavinet, slinky guitars and doubled vocals. There's also an undercurrent of classic country running throughout the mix
