May 26th -STREGALIA: A Night of Witchery with Vudu Sister and Friends at Askew!!

music by
Vudu Sister (PVD)
Vudu Sister is a dark folk ensemble from Providence, Rhode Island. The Sister is fronted by Keith J.G McCurdy, an American singer/songwriter with French, Sicilian, and Romanichal roots. The music takes influences from early 90s grunge, alternative rock, Romani music, European folk, as well as gothic rock and Romantic-era classical music. Literary influences range from the high fantasy works of J.R.R. Tolkien, the weird fiction of H.P Lovecraft, and the poetry and myths of classical antiquity and medieval Europe.

Savoir Faire (BOS)
Inspired by the wave of female songwriters of the era, Savoir Faire picked up the guitar in the late 90s and found herself on a musical path sculpted by jazz, rock, and social change. Often compared to sources of inspiration such as Fiona Apple, Radiohead and St. Vincent , Savoir Faire's music borrows hints of nostalgia in tone and harmonic structure, but serves a sobering reminder of the modern era with her lyrical content.

Jake Wasson M.D (PVD)
If you threw folk punk, blues, and alt country in a blender, you'd get a smoothie that tastes like Jake Wasson M.D.'s music sounds. He's hard enough to classify without the gender bending, trash-glam aesthetic, and yet the parts form a compelling whole. Drawing influence from The Mountain Goats, AJJ, The White Stripes, Robbie Fulks, and Ani DiFranco, Wasson wails his confessional lyrics over gritty arrangements, crafted layer by layer.
